坭興陶壺 “Nixing Pottery Teapot" is the fourth and most obscure of the specialty Gong Fu clays used to make teapots.  Like the more famous Yixing Purple Sand pot, the Chaozhou Handthrown Red Clay Pot, and the Jianshui Purple Pottery Pot, Nixing clay teaware absorbs the oils from the tea with every steeping, giving it a deep luster after extended use and imbuing it with the flavor and fragrance of the tea used in it.  These finely crafted instruments should be dedicated to one type of tea and never washed with soap.  The material and craftsmanship of these tea pots from Qinzhou, Guangxi in southwestern China is unique and exquisite.  Nixing pottery is unique among the Gong Fu clays in that it achieves a mottled, complex coloration during firing - it starts off as a single-colored dusky clay (pictured), and then changes in the kiln, making each piece unique.  These delicately carved teapots feature alternately a dragon or phoenix motif.  Especially well suited for hei cha (fermented tea), pu er, oolongs, and black tea.
